To Eoenilftte the Sanitary Condition of the Oit7 of Victoria.

15e it exacted bj' the Mayor and Council of tlio Corporation of the City of Victoria as follows:

1. It shnll not bo lawful to let or occupy, or suftbr to bo occupied, as a dwelling any room unless tho following require-ments aro complied with, that is to say:

(a) Unless such room contain at all times at least 384 cubic feet of space for each persoa.occupying tho samo. ' fl)^Unless suoli room has a window made to open in a manner approved by the Board of Tlcalili or lIoMltli Officer of the City.

2. Any pei-son who lets, occupies, oi-knowingly sufl'ors to bo occupied, any room contraiy to the provisions of t!ii» Bylaw shall bo liable tor .oveiy such offence to a penalty not oxcooding'§5(), in tho discretion of any Justico of tho l*oacc before whom lie may I)o convicted.

3. Any room in which any person pas sca tho night, or tho principal part nf tho night, shall ho deemed to he occupici.l as a dwelling witliin the meaning of this Bylaw.

4. Whcrfi two convictions uj^ainst tho provisions of tliis Bylaw relatinj; to tlio occupation of a rooui as a dwelling liavo taken placu within three months (vvhothor the persons so convicted woro or wore not the same) any Justico of tho Peace may direct tho closing of tho room so occupied, or of tho lu'ciuisca to which it bcloiigs, for such timo as he may deem necessary, ot may empower tlio Board of Health or Health Oliicor of the City p6rmanontly to oloBO the same.

."j. This Bylaw may bo cited for nil purposes as " Tho Dwellings Bylaw, 1879."
